ASME Boiler Pressure Vessel Certification Project

Technology Exchange | 2017-11-16

The ASME Boiler and Pressure vessel (BPV) certification project shows that the design, manufacture, assembly and inspection of the boiler pressure vessel components comply with the requirements of the certification unit. Shortly after the first publication in 1916 of "specifications for the construction and permissible working pressure of stationary boilers" (now known as ASME BPVC), ASME began providing certification programs for enterprises in the pressurized equipment industry to demonstrate that their quality management system was in line with standards. At present, nearly 7,000 companies worldwide possess ASME certification.

The ASME BPV certification program is widely available, including but not limited to: power boilers, heating boilers, pressure vessels, fiber-reinforced plastic pressure vessels, transport tanks and valves.

How to start an application
1th Step: Preparation and application
Login URL: GO.ASME.ORG/BPV to browse all application requirements, BPV lists, FAQs, and determine the scope of ASME-certified work.
• Additional content to be completed before submitting the application includes:
-Get the required criteria (for more details, please login to the website go.asme.org/requiredcodebooks).
-As stipulated in the standard, it is necessary to sign a contract with the Authorized Inspection Agency (AIA), Csei ASME Inspection Co., Ltd.---Special Inspection ASMI Technical Inspection (Beijing) Co., Ltd, is the ASME authorized nuclear power Inspection organization.
-Prepare and train personnel to implement the quality system in accordance with the BPVC standard.

• When you have completed the above steps, submit your application online.

2nd Step: Joint Inspection
The purpose of the Joint inspection is to evaluate the applicant's quality control manual and the ability to perform quality control manuals. The scope of the Joint inspection is based on the expected range of activities described by the applicant in the application.

ASME will review all activity points that the applicant mentions in the quality control manual that affect and control the quality, and ASME shall arrange the sites mentioned in the Review Group application form on a convenient date for the joint inspection.

The steps involved in on-site audits include:

1, Manual Audit: The first day of the audit manual, generally not in the applicant's facilities. The time spent depends on the size and complexity of the manual, which typically takes 3-5 to four hours. The findings of the audit manual will be discussed at the first meeting of the general assessment team.
Pending the completion of the Joint inspection, the applicant will need to provide a revised quality manual to the JIU, which shall contain the corrective action proposed by the JIU and the surveyor/Director surveyor. (or a request for change made by JIU in the Joint Inspection Unit that does not require the authorization of the Inspection Agency).

  2. First meeting/Factory tour: Usually on the first day of the afternoon. The first meeting will give JIU and the applicant an opportunity to introduce each other: introduce the parties, review the application including the type of certificate and the scope of application, and introduce the joint audit schedule. The joint trial team leader will also introduce ASME's appeal policy and confidentiality policy.
At the first meeting, the applicant can make an introduction to his company, product, personnel and so on. ASME encourages the company's senior management to attend the first meeting. The unit will make a brief factory visit at the end of the first meeting.

3, the implementation phase: the applicant's Quality manual to reflect the appropriate examples, or demonstration products, or both. If any non conformance is found during the execution phase, these non conformance items will be discussed immediately with the applicant in order to have the opportunity to correct them before they reach a conclusion, and if the non conformance affects the construction of past or current examples, the JIU will need to prepare a written document determining the need for the applicant to take corrective action.
At the implementation stage, the applicant will have the opportunity to correct any uncovered discovery that was found by the unit. These uncovered findings either do not meet the requirements of the relevant standards, either do not meet the requirements of the applicant's quality manual, or both. Failure to clear the items in the joint trial will result in the joint trial team recommending another audit or a 30-day follow-up. Any such situation requires the applicant to rectify the discovery that was not closed.

  4. Internal meetings of the Review Group: During the implementation summary phase, the review team will convene an internal meeting to identify the results of the JIU recommendations to ASME.

  5. Last meeting: ASME encourages senior management to attend the last meeting. The JIU team leader will publish their findings in the joint trial, including any quality manuals observed by the Joint inspection team or in the implementation of inconsistent, inconsistent solutions, and JIU recommendations to ASME, which will ultimately determine whether to issue certificates. Applicants are encouraged to inquire about any issues related to the joint inspection, and to raise any issues or differences of concern to them during the period of the joint trial or any of the discrepancies referred to in the ASME report.

3rd Step: Publication of audit content/certificate
All non-closing items that are not closed at ASME will need to be corrected within 30 days or treated as recommended by the review team and ASME accepted. Correction and closure of the non conformance will need to be completed within the agreed time, otherwise ASME may detain the certificate.

4th Step: Certification and renewal
In addition to H card (cast iron/cast aluminum) and um (small pressure vessel) Valid for 1 years, other ASME BPV certificates are valid for three years. Each particular certificate is based on the requirements of the appropriate standards, and other additional considerations may be part of the certification process to verify that the applicant's quality control system is maintained and that the established elements of the previously identified quality control system are executed in accordance with specific requirements. In the final phase of the certificate cycle, the certificate holder obtains information about the process of updating the certificate.
